Anyone out there dreaming of a white Christmas might want to stay asleep, because it’s a rare day when there’s snow on Edisto Beach during Christmas.
Although cold weather and snow aren’t the norm at the beach, it’s a fair trade off when visitors get to listen to the pounding of the surf and walk barefooted through the sand on Christmas Day.
It’s the end of December, but there’s more mild weather ahead for the week. Today’s high is forecast to be 59 degrees with a low of 42 degrees. There is a 10 percent chance of rain and skies will be mostly cloudy.
Christmas Eve will be 63 degrees with a low of 51 degrees. There is a 20 percent chance of rain and skies will be partly cloudy.
On Christmas Day there will be a 30 percent chance of rain and cloudy skies. The high for the day is 64 degrees with a low of 56 degrees.
Severe weather may creep in on Wednesday. There is a 70 percent chance of rain Wednesday and thunderstorms are a possibility, some of which may be severe. The high for Wednesday is 61 degrees with a low of 36 degrees.
The stormy weather should move out by Thursday. The high for Thursday is 51 degrees with a low of 34 degrees. There is a 10 percent chance of rain, although skies will be mostly sunny.
The high for Friday will be right around 57 degrees with a low of 46 degrees. The sun will stick around all day so that anyone still in the area can take advantage of the crisp weather and take a walk down to the beach.
