It’s hard to believe that the official kick off to summer is this weekend, but it is upon us. If you’re lucky enough to come to Edisto Beach then you’ll want to check out some of the events going on this weekend.
From 11 a.m to 3 p.m. Saturday the annual Fire Department Fish Fry will be underway out at the Lion’s Club located at 2907 Myrtle Street. Every year the fire department hosts this event so that locals and visitors can get together and feast on some local catch along with other goodies.
The Edisto Bookstore will also be getting in on the festivities by offering a book signing from 3-5 p.m. Saturday. Authors Kate Salley Plamer and Jim Plamer will stop by to sign copies of their book First South Carolinians. The book is about the culture of the native people living in South Carolina before Europeans came. It is a children’s book for grades 4-6.
The Edisto Bookstore is located at 547 Highway 174.
The fourth annual Edisto Beach Offshore Challenge will get underway today at 7:30 p.m. at the Edisto Marina. Anyone looking to participate can register today at 5 p.m. at the marina. The entry fee is $250.
The general public is welcome to come out to see the weigh-in as the fisherman come in with their catch.
In addition to the events going on this weekend, many of the shops and restaurants are offering specials to welcome the start of the season. Plus, the weather is supposed to be gorgeous with completely clear skies and highs right around 80 degrees.
It looks like this weekend is the perfect time to come back to Edisto if you’ve been away for a while.
