McConkey’s Jungle Shack

McConkey’s Jungle Shack has been in business since 2007 and is grateful to have been a part of the Edisto community for so long. This informal tropical-themed café located on 108 Jungle Rd. furnishes comfort food like burgers, hot dogs, and fresh fish in a relaxed setting with funky decor. McConkey’s serves generous portions of a wide variety of American cuisine classics, open for lunch and dinner seven days a week with an indoor screened-in porch and alfresco pet-friendly dining. The name derives from a bit of local history, as Edisto Beach was initially called McConkey’s Beach, and the main thoroughfare was once known as McConkey Boulevard.

Their cooked-to-order burgers steal the show here, like the ½ lb Beef Fat Burger, a lovely, sloppy mess piled high with cheese, bacon, chili, onions, mushrooms, jalapenos, and garnished with lettuce, tomato, onions, and pickles. If a loaded hot dog is more your speed, try Bill’s Dog, a plump and juicy all-beef hot dog embellished with relish, onion, sauerkraut, chili, cheese, and coleslaw.

Seafood best sellers include fried fish and fried shrimp, accompanied by their homemade shack chips and hush puppies. You can also upgrade to combo platters for an additional charge.

McConkey’s Famous Fish Tacos, beer-battered fried flounder fillets layered with cabbage and dressed in McConkey’s sauce and salsa, are another coveted item accentuating the Southwest section of the menu. Tacos come in chicken, shrimp, and mahi-mahi options as well. Online reviews effusively praise their Nachos ATW, overloaded with queso cheese, chili, grilled chicken, jalapenos, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, olives, sour cream, salsa, and guacamole.

Their popular wings come sauced in either hot, mild, sweet and spicy, hotyaki, or teriyaki.

Lighter fare like their freshly made Oriental Chicken Salad mingles cucumber, cabbage, tomato, onion, mushrooms, almonds, marinated grilled chicken, mandarin orange, and fried noodles on a bed of greens with honey ginger dressing.

Sandwiches and wraps run the gamut from a Greek Pita and their delectable Edisto Cuban Sandwich to a Cashew Curried Chicken Salad made in-house and served with lettuce and tomato on either toasted bread or nestled in a garlic herb wrap. Burgers, dogs, sandwiches, and wraps are all served with a side of their Shack Chips.

For an appetizer, share a basket of their hand-cut and beer-battered onion rings or their fried mushrooms.

The little ones are afforded ample kids’ menu options of a hamburger, hot dog, corn dog, chicken fingers, cheese quesadilla, or a salad.

Accept dessert as an inevitability because their sweets are baked right in-house weekly with whole pies available for purchase. Choose from Key Lime Pie, Coconut Pie, Brownie Sundae, Cheesecake, and Bread Pudding & Ice Cream.

Cool down after a hot beach day with one of their refreshments, including iced tea, coffee, lemonade, sodas, or an Arnold Palmer. From McConkey’s delicious cocktails and a selection of local craft brews and domestic beers to house wines and sangria by the glass or pitcher, the adults have a plethora of possibilities.
