For Edisto Beach, this weekend is the busiest it ever gets. People from near and far come down to the island to celebrate the birth of the nation (and to enjoy some great waves, tasty shrimp, and cold beer).
If you find yourself in need of a beach trip this weekend, but havent rented a house, you can always come down for the day. All of Edisto Beach is public, and beach access paths line each block so there is always access to the shore. Parking is available along Palmetto Boulevard and on side streets.
As always, this years Salute from the Shore will take place around 1:15 p.m. so get to the beach early if you want to see vintage WWII aircraft and F-16 jets as they fly along the Carolina coast.
Remember that fireworks are banned in the town of Edisto Beach, so you wont be able to see any in town, although it is possible to look to nearby Seabrook Island to see some in the distance.
If you want to take in some great fireworks, head into Charleston.
Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant features a professional fireworks display along with a beach music band and shore-side party. With various ticket packages, this option features something for everybody, including families.
The South Carolina Aquarium is hosting the Sea Stars and Stripes event from 7-10 p.m. at the aquarium. This event features Lowcountry boil and Holy City Brewings beers.
If fireworks arent your thing, or you prefer sticking around the island, visit any of the bars and restaurants to mingle with locals and other vacationers or kick back on your own back porch.
No matter what you decide to do, if it involves Edisto, youre likely to have a great holiday weekend.
Heres a word to the wise, though: If you need groceries or ice, bring it with you! Youll never see a store busier than the Bi-Lo this time of year.
