SeaCow Eatery

Edisto Beach Vacation Homes

This longstanding quirky Edisto staple has been in business since 1995. It is open daily, serving a large selection of Southern dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner Tuesday-Sunday and breakfast and lunch only on Mondays. Located at 145 Jungle Rd., SeaCow Eatery offers both indoor and outdoor seating in a cozy, laidback atmosphere, including a pet-friendly deck for alfresco dining and a screened-in porch to shield you from the summer sun.

Although ownership has changed hands over the years, the restaurant’s successors have retained many of the recipes created by the original owner Lori Fowlkes, including the “Moo La La” French Toast, Curry Chicken Salad, John’s Omelet, Cobb Salad, and the mustard tarragon dressing.

Breakfast fanatics rave over the Moo Mania, home fries topped with scrambled eggs, sauteed mushrooms and onions, smothered in sausage gravy, and served with a choice of toast or biscuit. Omelets come with your choice of grits or home fries and biscuit or toast. Choose from among an extensive list of toppings—or don’t—and order the aforementioned John’s Omelet, a six-egg belly-busting behemoth that crams in all the fillings (bacon, ham, sausage, onions, peppers, mushrooms, spinach, and shrimp). Breakfast regulars recommend SeaCow’s grits as a don’t miss side.

Or indulge your morning sweet tooth for breakfast and choose from a wide assortment of Martha’s (the in-house dessert chef) homemade desserts such as a fudge brownie, a giant cookie, or a slice of homemade pie or cheesecake.

You can try their Classic Reuben, Philly Steak, Shrimp or Oyster Po’Boy, or Crab Cake Sandwich for lunch. Skip the bun and munch on one of SeaCow’s seafood platters with shrimp, flounder, oyster, or scallops or upgrade to the combo and choose two, paired with your choice of two sides.

They also prepare some lighter, healthier fare, including a range of salads from their signature Curry Chicken Salad to the Shrimp Salad Plate, both served with slaw, fresh fruit, and a bagel.

Kick dinner off with a cup or bowl of their New England Clam Chowder or the Fried Calamari appetizer served with sweet Thai sauce and spicy horseradish.

Consider a SeaCow favorite for your entrée like their Shrimp & Grits or Lowcountry Boil.

Dinner means you can upgrade fried seafood platters to the Fisherman’s Platter (pick three of any item) and the Sea Cow Super Platter (get all four). If you lack an extra stomach or a partner to tackle these mighty meals, you can always stick to one or two items.

Of course, not everyone wants their seafood fried, so grilled or blackened Mahi Mahi is another delicious option cheap replica watches. If you’re craving more turf than surf, the Hawaiian Chicken or the Sea Cow Steak are other great options. They also present daily lunch and dinner specials.

Pair your meal with some of their classic down-home sides like fried okra, collards, green beans, or lima beans.

The same decadent desserts are available for lunch and dinner. Key Lime, Peanut Butter Silk, Almond Joy, and Bourbon Pecan are just a sampling of the myriad pie flavors to tempt your tummy.

This family-friendly restaurant takes a playful approach to their kids’ menu, with whimsical presentations like their Flying Cow, a pizza served on a SeaCow frisbee. Additional items include hamburgers, chicken tenders, grilled cheese, fries, and applesauce.

Their extensive beverage list entails coffee, tea, lemonade, juices, sodas, milk, and hot cocoa. Cocktails, beer, and wine are available as well.

During your stay on Edisto, remember to check out this quaint little place that delivers on hearty portions, reasonable prices, and personable customer service.
