For many, the spirit of Christmas comes the day after Thanksgiving. For those of us spending time at the beach, it begins today.
If you’re in the area and want to get a taste of how Edisto Beach does Christmas, then take a look at all of the events happening this weekend. Take part in one or all of them to ensure that you are ready for the most wonderful time of the year.
Christmas at the Civic Center – December 7
To begin with, head out from noon to 7 p.m. to the Civic Center at 42 Station Court for the Holiday Market and Mingle. This event features crafts and art from more than 30 local artists and offers shoppers with the opportunity to bring home a unique gift.
Curious about what you’ll find? It looks like there will be an ample selection of candles, jewelry, skin care items, treats, clothing, scarves, ornaments, and art.
Not a huge fan of shopping? Don’t worry, there will be live music by local musicians and nature crafts from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
To fully get into the holiday spirit, this event also features free cookies and hot chocolate.
Holiday Street Parade – December 8
The Edisto Beach Street Parade is one of the most beloved events on the island. This parade begins at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9 and starts at the 600 block of Palmetto Boulevard before finishing up at the Pavilion.
Line the streets to watch at floats pass by and highlight the unique, eclectic vibe of the island. Be sure to bring a bag along – most people riding on the floats throw candy to the crowd.
After the parade, head over to the Pavilion for the “Santa at the Beach” event in the Pavilion.
The fun continues into the night with the annual Edisto auction at 6 p.m. at Ella and Ollie’s restaurant, located in the Wyndham Resort. This event involves a pig roast, cash bar, and silent and live auctions.
Unfortunately, due to inclement weather, this year’s boat parade has been cancelled.
Hands On Holiday Fun – Dec. 14 and Dec. 21
Want to make a unique gift for a loved one? Head out to Magpie and Company, located at 114 Jungle Road in Palmetto Plaza, and participate in holiday shopping and craft nights.
Visit the shop for a chance to create a natural greenery wreath or decorate sugar cookies. Plus, there will be complimentary beer and wine for those of age and extended business hours.
Holiday Cheer with Botany Bay Ecotours – Dec. 22
Get out on the water with Edisto’s only biologist who is known for fantastic ecotours. While on the water, learn about the island’s ecosystem and marine life. You will also hear stories about what makes Edisto unique. Purchase tickets in advance by visiting botanybayecotours.com
Head into Charleston – Now through New Year’s Day
It’s hard to come by a true winter wonderland when you’re visiting South Carolina, but one has been created at the James Island County Park in Charleston.
Each year, this park transforms into a festival of lights with millions – yes, millions – of lights on display for all to see. These displays highlight some of the most famous landmarks of the area along with traditional Christmas sights.
Plus, it features a Christmas village, visits to Santa’s workshop, a giant sandcastle, carousel, and everything else one would expect from a magical wonderland.
While this park is set up so that visitors can do a driving tour, remember to take the time to park and walk around or take the holiday train. It’s one of the most well-done light shows on the Carolina coast, and fun for the whole family.
