Restaurant Changes Around Edisto

Fans of Grover’s, the restaurant located at the heart of the Wyndham Ocean Ridge Resort in Edisto Beach, will be disappointed to learn that it might not be open this summer season.

Every year the restaurant closed for a little more than a month during the offseason, but this year, its doors never reopened. The closing came after a tumultuous two years for the restaurant, which began when popular executive chef Nathan Smith left in 2012.

Shortly after Smith left for a position out of state, the chef hired to replace him was killed in an automobile accident on the island. Since then, the management staff (and menu) changed considerably. Now, Grover’s owners are hoping to get the restaurant leased by an individual or group capable of bringing the restaurant back to its former glory.

The word on the street is that a group from the Charleston area is going to re-open the restaurant in time for the summer season, but high season is less than two months away and Grover’s is still closed.

In other restaurant news:

Buck’s Pizza, which was supposed to be closed and replaced by Doe’s Pizza, is still open for business.

The southwest-style grill that was to open in the Palmetto Plaza shopping strip has yet to open, although work is underway in the vacant spot left behind when Edisto’s Treasures and Consignment closed.

The Pavilion, which is owned by Enterprise Bank of South Carolina according to Colleton County property tax records, is undergoing some changes as well. Granted, what those changes are remains uncertain. Some say that the bank is trying to sell the property. Others say that a group of locals are going to take over the management of the restaurant, gift shop, and bar. Since no one seems to really know what’s happening with the Pavilion, we’ll keep you posted on things as they change.

Then there’s Po’Pigs, which is currently located out on Highway 174 in the small shopping strip that includes the Horizon EZ Shop. The restaurant will be moved to its new location next to True Value at some point, but delays keep pushing back its new opening day. Once it does open, expect some menu additions and daily specials.

Last but not least, the Domino’s Pizza located in the Horizon EZ Shop on Highway 174 has closed. At least Billow Street and Buck’s Pizza are still around to satiate the needs of Edisto’s pizza-eaters.
