Before the big new beach houses, Edisto was a place of simple raised cottages with screened porches, and plenty are still rented today. For something even simpler, Edisto Beach State Park rents cabins on the marsh.

Classic Edisto beach cottages
- Smaller and simpler than new homes, often with two or three bedrooms, a screened porch and a big deck.
- Easier on the budget, especially a street or two back from the beach.
- Old-Edisto charm. Many have been in the same family for generations, so expect character over luxury.
- Expect stairs. Cottages sit on pilings too and rarely have elevators.
