A pool is the perfect break from salt and sand, especially with little kids. On Edisto you can rent a house with its own private pool, or a villa with access to a shared resort pool.

- Private pools come with many larger beach houses, both oceanfront and a street or two back. They’re usually fenced and sometimes heated.
- Shared resort pools are part of the deal at Wyndham Ocean Ridge villas, where guests use the community’s pools.
- Oceanfront with a pool is the top of the market and books earliest; see oceanfront rentals.
What to ask before you book
- Is the pool heated, and does it cost extra? Heat is often an add-on fee and makes spring and fall swimming possible.
- Is it fenced and gated? Important if you have young kids or a dog.
- Is it private or shared? Some listings show a community pool in the photos.
- When is it open? Unheated pools get chilly from November through March.
Pool season on Edisto
Edisto’s ocean is warmest from June through September, in the 80s by midsummer (see our month-by-month weather). A heated pool stretches swim season into April, May and October, when rentals are cheaper and the island is quieter.
Pool safety for families
- Keep pool gates latched and assign a grown-up “water watcher.”
- Review the house rules on pool hours and glass.
- At the beach, check the rip current risk on our weather page and learn how to stay safe around rip currents.
