Edisto Beach Golf Cart & Bike Rentals

Edisto Beach Bike Path

Edisto Beach Vacation Homes

Edisto is flat, small and slow-paced, so most visitors park the car and get around by golf cart or bike. Here’s who rents them on Edisto Beach, what they cost, and the Town rules you need to know before you drive a cart.

Updated October 2026. Prices and policies change, so confirm with each company when you book.

Golf cart rules on Edisto Beach

These come from the Town of Edisto Beach. Rental companies take care of the cart’s permits and decal, but you’re responsible for driving it legally.

  • Drivers must be 16 or older with a valid driver’s license on them. Most rental companies require renters to be 18 or 21.
  • No golf carts on Palmetto Boulevard. It’s SC Highway 174, a primary highway. Carts may cross it only straight across. Every other street in town is allowed.
  • Daylight only: from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset.
  • Kids under 12 must wear a seat belt or ride in a child seat, and no one rides on the driver’s lap.
  • Never on the beach. Motor vehicles aren’t allowed on the sand.
  • Street-legal LSVs (low-speed vehicles that go 20 to 25 mph) may drive after dark and on roads posted 35 mph or less, but they can’t drive along Palmetto Boulevard either.
  • Open-container and all other South Carolina driving laws apply on a cart. More in our guide to Edisto Beach rules.

Staying on Palmetto Boulevard? Ask the rental company how you’ll get the cart to and from your house, since you can only cross the boulevard, not drive along it.

Golf cart, LSV or bike?

  • Golf cart: the classic Edisto ride for short trips to the beach, Jungle Road shops and dinner, as long as you’re home by dusk and off Palmetto Boulevard.
  • LSV: costs more, but it’s street legal after dark and has seat belts and lights, which helps for evening dinners.
  • Bike: the cheapest way to get around, and the island is flat. Many vacation rentals include bikes, so check before you rent.

Biking on Edisto

The paved Edisto Beach bike path runs about five miles from the marina along Docksite Road and Jungle Road to Highway 174, where a causeway connects to the trails in Edisto Beach State Park. It’s flat, shaded in places and easy on any bike. See our guide to the Edisto Beach bike trail.

  • Ride with lights and reflectors after dark, and watch for cars on Highway 174.
  • Lock your bike at beach accesses and restaurants.
  • Pack water; summer afternoons are hot.

Kayak and paddleboard rentals

For time on the water, Island Bikes & Outfitters rents kayaks and canoes, and Edisto Watersports & Tackle on Docksite Road rents kayaks and paddleboards and runs guided tours. Check the tide chart before you paddle.
