Dog rules on Edisto Beach
- May 1 through Oct. 31: dogs must be on a leash on the beach.
- Always pick up after your dog, on the beach and in town.
- No pets in the state park cabins: Edisto Beach State Park doesn’t allow pets in its cabins or cabin area.

Tips for renting with a dog
- Check the pet fee and limits. Many owners charge a fee per pet or per stay and limit the number or size of dogs.
- Look for a fenced yard and shade. Homes a block or two back from the beach often have bigger yards than oceanfront houses.
- Mind the stairs. Edisto homes sit high on pilings, which can be tough on older dogs. A home with an elevator helps.
- Plan for the heat. Walk early and late in summer, when the sand and pavement are cooler, and bring plenty of water.
- Watch for nests. Keep dogs away from roped-off loggerhead nests from May through October.
