Giving Thanks on Edisto Beach

Edisto Beach Vacation Homes

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and that means there is still time to book your trip to Edisto Beach.

Every year, many families come to the island to celebrate the holidays and spend time giving thanks. But there’s a lesser known reason to visit Edisto Beach this time of year and that reason is this: It’s the perfect time for a fall getaway.

Take advantage of the days off of work and head to the beach for a fall getaway, fishing and golf trip, or girls’ weekend.

Spending time at the beach during the offseason means you get the opportunity to take advantage of things that you might miss out on during the summer months.

For instance, if you’ve ever wanted to take a day trip into Charleston or Savannah, the fall is a great time to do this. The temperatures are more pleasant, the traffic is reduced, and the tantalizing call of the ocean is just a little lessened. That means it’s a lot easier to leave the island and explore some of the nearby sites and scenes of the lowcountry.

In Charleston, you can spend time taking in the historic Battery or shopping on King Street. If you’re interested in more history, take the ferry out to Fort Sumter and learn more about the Civil War. Want to know more about marine life? Visit the aquarium and get up close and personal with some of the creatures that call the Atlantic home.

This time of year is also perfect for getting a seat at one of the many famous restaurants in town. If you haven’t gone already, try Poogan’s Porch.

You might also venture out to Mt. Pleasant, Folly Beach, Sullivan’s Island, Seabrook Island, or Isle of Palms while you’re in the city. While Edisto will always be number one for many of us, there are other beautiful beaches to see while you’re in the area.

If you’re up for a longer drive – about 2 hours if the traffic is decent – then head over to Savannah, GA for an afternoon. Like Charleston, this historic southern city offers tours, stunning galleries, and restaurants with delicious food that you’ll want to try. You will definitely want to visit this city at least once during your trips to the Lowcountry.

Another great thing about visiting Edisto this time of year is the fact that the weather is beautiful and that makes it perfect for anyone looking to enjoy the outdoors.

Walking the bike path provides a way to take in some scenery throughout town, and if you’re lucky, you might even get a glimpse of some of the deer that make the beach their home.

You can also spend time visiting the numerous shops in town (including the shop at the museum) to pick up some unique gifts to bring back home.

Make a point to schedule some time out on the green to get in a few rounds of golf while you’re here. Or schedule a deep sea fishing excursion with one of the many skilled captains in town.

Best of all, you can spend your time on your fall trip relaxing and enjoying the sound of the waves crashing against the shore.

There’s nothing better than Edisto any time of year, so if you manage to make your way down here, then you’re sure to have a great time.
