Valentines Day is almost here and that means theres still time to make plans to spend the weekend on Edisto Beach.
While most of the country is locked in the icy grip of winter, Edistos been enjoying daytime temperatures that love to hover in the high 50s to low 60s. Theres even been more than a few days where temperatures got into the 70s. The nights have been rather chilly, but that makes it all the more perfect for sitting around a fire either in the house or outdoors (where permitted).
This time of year is perfect for visiting because rental home rates are at their lowest and hardly anyone is around. If youve ever wanted to see what Edisto is like in the offseason, you couldnt ask for a better time than now.
While many restaurants have shortened hours or are closed for the season, old favorites like McConkeys Jungle Shack are still open. Visitors can also drive into Charleston and have a romantic meal right downtown.
If you want to explore some of Edistos more romantic areas then try walking out to Jeremys Inlet. You can get to this area by walking down the beach in front of the Edisto Beach State Park. Once you get to the point where a creek flows into the ocean you have reached the inlet. Although it may seem possible to cross the inlet, refrain from doing so because you may find yourself trapped on the other side if the tide comes in sooner than you imagined. Plus, it wont seem too romantic if youre stranded on the beach.
Instead try gazing out over the water to watch as the dolphin swim and play. You can also search for sharks teeth or find sea shells. Its even possible to find artifacts and fossils.
Walking through the woods also provides a stunning setting for anyone looking to get away and reconnect. Head down Palmetto Road right off of Highway 174 and keep left until you enter the park. The trails in the area lead through the woods and marsh and even take visitors to an ancient oyster mound left behind by Edistos first residents thousands of years ago.
One of the most romantic things to do though is to go on a sunset cruise from Edisto. It takes visitors through some of Edistos scenic creeks and is filled with marsh views, wildlife viewing, and relaxation.
No matter what you do, youre sure to have a great time while visiting Edisto Beach.
