Tis The Season: Ways to Give Back

Edisto Beach Vacation Homes

In this season of giving, it is important to remember that there are ways to reach out to the Edisto community.

As many residents and visitors know, Edisto is home to many charitable organizations that help everything from its residents to animals to the island itself. To give back to the island you love, take a look at these ways that you can help out.

Donating food is one of the biggest ways you can help out on the island. There are many needy families on the island that rely on the food pantry as a way to feed their families. The Presbyterian Church provides foods for these families, and receives donations from other area churches to help fulfill this need. Thankfully, many families, visitors, and businesses donate to the pantry to ensure that those in need can always receive the necessary items.

Like most food pantries, staples like non-perishable canned goods, especially canned meats, vegetables, and powdered milk are always need. Paper products and toiletries are also in high demand. You can also give back to the community by helping Edisto’s stray animal population. Organizations like Animal Lovers of Edisto Canine Rescue help stray and abandoned dogs on the island find loving forever homes. This 501c3 organization is a no-kill shelter that provides full veterinarian care, shelter, and love to Edisto’s strays. The organization is supported entirely by the donations of locals and visitors and is always in need of financial contributions (and foster and forever homes).

Know that no matter what you choose to do, any and all help is appreciated by all of those who call Edisto home. It is the selfless help of those who volunteer to do any service that empowers the island to be the place so many people love.
